Best Mac Lipstick

MAC Lipstick, my one true love. It wasn't always like this, I used to think mac lipsticks were highly overrated, but recently my opinion has changed and I can finally see what others had seen in those small bullets of colour for years.

Mac lipstick sale

There are a whole load of colours and finishes the MAC Lipsticks come in, and if you aren't a MAC regular it is hard to navigate the lipstick range and find the perfect one for you. Just like with our previous article MAC Foundations – The Breakdown, this article breaks down all the finishes available in the MAC Lipstick collection.

Matte

The matte lipsticks are by far my favourite. They are highly pigmented and long-wearing. The only downfall is they can be a little drying on the lips, so treat them to a nourishing balm before and after wearing the lipstick. My favourite shade is Chili.

Retro Matte

There aren't many retro matte shades still available. As far as I can tell these are very matte, more so than the usual mattes and more drying on the lips. Because they are more drying, they will inevitably be long wearing. Be warned, these will dry out the lips

Amplified

The amplified range is a creamy formula but also very pigmented. The finish is somewhere between matte and normal. If you want a hint of colour without a drying effect this formula is for you. Due to the creamy nature of the lipstick, it does need to be reapplied throughout the day.

Creme Sheen

The formulas of the crème sheen lipsticks are, as the name suggests, very creamy. They are a medium pigmentation and have a glossy finish. As the formula is very creamy, the lasting power of these isn't as high as the matte or amplified.

Frost

This range is one which I feel is like marmite, some people love it and others hate it. Think back to the type of lipstick your mum would let you wear as a 12-year-old; that is the frost range. The lipsticks are full of frost like sparkles whilst also holding a decent pigmentation in the lipstick. My favourite is Melt Down.

Lustre

Lustre

The lustre lipsticks are quite sheer in pigmentation with a very natural finish. It has a slightly glossy finish but not as glossy as the crème sheen range. Two high-powered effects – Lustre and Glass – in one new lip finish. This amazing ornamental finish shines the lips with hi-shine overlaid with various tones of pearlised glaze.

Glaze

The glaze range of lipsticks are very sheer and some have a shimmer running through. Due to the formula, the lipsticks leave a very sheer natural and glossy finish on the lips, without heavy pigmentation. They stand out on the runway and shimmer on the street!

Satin

The satin shades are a very natural finish, not too matte and not too glossy. They aren't as highly pigmented as the matte finish but give a great colour pay off.

If you've got this far into the post, well done you. There are so many MAC lipstick finishes that it's easy to get confused by it all, and this is just the standard lipstick line. Mac also sells a few other types of lipstick, but that's another post.

Mac Lipstick Ingredients List

Now that you have the knowledge, its time to shop MAC Lipstick and add some glam to those kissable lips of yours.
